Homelessness is an urgent public health crisis.

But, we CAN solve homelessness in Monroe County

  • From 2023-2024, homelessness increased 32%, from 803 people to 1,056 people

  • From 2023-2024, chronic homelessness more than doubled, from 88 people to 181 people

  • Alarmingly, unsheltered people in Monroe County increased 470% from 2007 – 2024 (14 to 80); and doubled from 2023 - 2024

  • This number of people experiencing homelessness is the highest it’s ever been since the federal government began counting in 2007

Homelessness is growing

Evictions ae rising in Monroe County towns

  • Eviction filings are returning to their pre-pandemic levels, on track to surpass 2019 numbers 

  • During the first six months of 2024, one-third of all Monroe County eviction filings were from the towns, while in 2019, only 15% were from the towns

  • 1/3rd of all  211 requests in the last year were for housing and shelter

  • Of the 20,000 requests for housing and shelter, 7,600 were specifically for emergency shelter

  • That equates 21 calls/day seeking emergency shelter in the last year
